Church this Morning

Last night the family came in and we had our "Christmas Eve" dinner and opened gifts. We went to church this morning. Hadn't been there the past 2 Sundays because of the weather. Our street is covered in frozen ruts, main streets were bare but the church parking lot was solid ice and snow. Good thing we have a 4x4!! Instead of a regular sermon the choir performed the contatta that was scheduled for last Sunday but was cancelled because of the weather. It was supurb!!! It was just above freezing today so some of the ice and snow did melt...can't wait till the roads are all clear again!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS 2008

Merry Christmas everyone!!! It was so strange being at home without all the kids and grandkids last night! We usually get together Christmas Eve for Candlelight dinner...this is the first time since the first year we were married that my husband and I had Candlelight dinner by ourselves. At least the snow has subsided a bit, but my poor old blueberry bushes in the back yard are looking a little worse for wear. My husband dug a path out to them to knock some of the snow off them. There's 2 bushes, they're old but produce a LOT of blueberries in the summer. Sure would hate to see them break from all the snow on them!!

Snowy Christmas Eve

It started to snow last night and snowed all night and all day today. Yesterday I got creative and made tarter sauce, a cheese sauce dip, cheese fritters and a layered crab dip. The family usually all come here for Christmas Eve. This morning I phoned and told them I thought we should postpone Christmas Eve...too many cars in accidents...the roads are sooooo bad, and it's supposed to freeze more tonight! Our oldest daughter lives on a steep hill so she agreed and said she was glad we'd made the decision, so she wouldn't have to. A lot of church services are also cancelled for tonight as well.

It's a marshmallow world

Woke up to blue sky and sunshine. We decided we'd better shovel the driveway because it's forcast for more snow Tuesday evening and Christmas Eve day and the family is coming for dinner on Christmas Eve. There's about 18" of snow on the driveway now. Our driveway is huge so it was a lot of work and now I've got muscles I wasn't sure I had!!! It was so pleasant though, the sun was shining but as soon as the sun went down did it ever get chilly!!!

Snow, snow and more snow

Yesterday before we went to the get together at our daughter's and son-in-law's I phoned and made arrangements to take Mom to the store to get some groceries before we got snow-bound...it's supposed to start snowing late tonight or tomorrow morning. Had a lovely time at our daughter's but about 9pm it started snowing so we headed home. It was funny snow...more like frozen rain and it kept freezing to the windshield of the truck. We got Mom home then came home. We were sitting and having a hot toddy when we saw flashing red lights through the window. Looked out, the firetruck was parked in front of the house next door and was soon joined by an ambulance. Couldn't really see what was going on. This morning it was still snowing tiny little flakes, but it never stopped all day and is still snowing. I started doing a jig-saw puzzle so I wouldn't look outside all the time. It's hard to believe it was a week ago last night when we got the first snowfall! For an area that rarely gets snow we've certainly had our allotment ...and the forecast is for more white stuff. The Christmas lights do look pretty in the snow though!

Interesting evening

I made a big pot of soup today and made a layered dip to take up to our daughter's tomorrow night for a get-together. I was feeling tired so came down to play a couple of games on my computer before getting supper on the table. In the midst of my game everything went totally black. I felt my way upstairs and managed to light some candles. The soup was still hot so we had candlelight supper then I got to do the dishes by candlelight...that was quite the thrill!!! I phoned and got a recording that the power should be restored by 8pm. Twenty minutes to 8 the microwave beeped and the lights came on, only to go off again. Good thing we have a wood heater & gas stove. We also have a power pack that we use when we go camping. It will power a radio, TV or computer for about 3 hours so I plugged the radio in to see if I could find out what happened...never did find out...guess it just wasn't important enough to warrent news coverage. Power came on, went off again then finally came on again. We were without power for just over 4 hours, but it's amazing how dependant we are on electricity!!! If it wasn't so cold I would have gone out to the trailer...we're used to not having power in it! It's been -5C all day, now it's down to -11C and going down even further tonght. Anyway, that was my exciting evening!!! Now it's time for beddy-bye. Night night!!!

Calm before the storm?

Yesterday was such a perfect day! We met our camping friends R&C and M&S at the casino for an early breakfast...how can you beat a $2.22 breakfast buffet??? Came back to the house for a longer visit then after they left, my husband and I went to our youngest granddaughter's Christmas concert. She's in French immersion Kindergarten. The school teaches both English and French so the concert (grades K-7) was in both English and French. It doesn't seem like Christmas until we've been to the kids' concerts and the bonus was it wasn't snowing. Still nice this morning but the forcast is for more snow starting on Sunday. The muffler on our car is making lots of noise so my husband decided he'd better take it in to get fixed before we get another dump of snow.
